Kat Superfisky was reflecting on the logistics of transforming the concrete embankment of the Los Angeles River into a parkway and ecological corridor.... one back of the envelope calculation later and a life changing question was posed:

“Where are we going to get all the plant material?”

Typically for large-scale green infrastructure projects like this one, plants are imported from states as far away as Washington or Arizona.

Grown in LA was concieved as an organization that would supply locally sourced and propagated plant material for the 700 acres of river revitalization.
