Kat Superfisky, the city of Los Angeles’ first and only urban ecologist, was reflecting on the logistics of transforming the concrete embankment of the LA river into a parkway and ecological corridor.... one back of the envelope calculation later and a life changing question was posed:

“Where are we going to get all the plant material?”

Grown in LA was concieved as an organization that would supply locally sourced and propagated plant material for the 700 acres of river revitalization.
